ND01

Titled ND01, this sculpture is the inaugural work in an artistic inquiry inspired by the iconic rose windows of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. It represents the artist's first translation of this monumental work of sacred architecture into the signature medium of layered paper, establishing the foundational concepts for a new series of explorations.

Composed of 32 layers, the piece confronts the central challenge of interpreting an object famed for its radiant stained glass. In place of color, ND01 utilizes structural depth. The intricate tracery is meticulously layered to catch light and cast a complex web of shadows, creating a monochromatic study that evokes the luminosity and complexity of the original through pure form.

A key feature of this iteration is its dual-sided construction. Finished on both faces, the piece transcends the limitations of a wall-mounted relief, functioning as a true three-dimensional object that can be viewed in the round. This allows it to interact with its environment in a manner akin to a real window, rewarding examination from all angles. As the genesis of a new series, ND01 stands as a powerful and successful first statement.
