Lotus Bowl

Titled Lotus Bowl, this sculpture of 118 paper layers is both an object of organic beauty and a rigorous technical study. Like the flower for which it is named, the piece represents a process of creation and unfolding, serving as a focused exploration of advanced design principles.
The work was conceived as a specific inquiry into three key concepts: the use of staggered layering to create fluid, complex curves; the foundational process of generating dimensional design from flat planes; and perhaps most crucially, the limits of a self-supporting paper structure. Each layer is meticulously offset to contribute to the whole, allowing the form to gracefully bloom outward.
The result is a testament to the engineering potential hidden within a delicate medium. The Lotus Bowl holds its form without any external armature, its integrity derived solely from the precise stacking and interaction of its numerous strata. It is a successful experiment in form and a graceful sculpture that captures the structural elegance of the natural world.
